All Things Key West Key Lime

It was a busy weekend in the world of "All Things Key Lime." Kermit's is proud to have participated in 3 VERY different events on one fun-filled weekend. First, right outside Kermit's front door in Key West, Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe was proud to once again sponsor Scott Free Racing, who, despite spinning out their boat and ending the day early, took 3rd in the 2012 World Championships! Way to go, Stephen and Steve!

After that, it was on to Ponce Inlet, FL and the Disappearing Island to find the "Paddle Out Poverty" event (Stand Up Paddleboard--SUP--and kayak races) to benefit Entrust. This is an organization that is dedicated to mentoring those in third world countries who want to get out of poverty by owning their own small businesses. The burgers used Kermit's products and a Basket of their items was won at the silent auction, surely a well-appreciated prize. Stay tuned because we'll give you more information about the April event that Entrust is already planning.

Last, but certainly not least (or cleanest, by a long shot), Saturday, November 10 was the First Annual Kermit's Key Lime Pie Eating Contest at the Volusia County Fair and Youth Expo, which proved to be an exciting time for participants and spectators alike. The rules were simple... first one to finish the pie wins... and, oh yeah... no hands.

More than 20 years ago, when he was Papa's bookkeeper Kermit Carpenter started to sell smoothies before a restaurant in key West. One day the master chef being absent Kermit was left alone to look out for a new adventure. So long he had been racking his brains along with his sister Anita and her husband John to offer a high quality gourmet food and that was the reason for the advent of Kermit's Key West Key Lime Pie Shoppe.

When the store first became available, the price of the location was appealing, but there was one issue with that particular location on the corner of Elizabeth and Greene. It was directly across the street from a sewage station. It also happened to be on the bight, the waterfront area which the city of Key West had some big plans for. As long as Kermit, Anita, and John could stick out the first few years they knew the location would turn out to be great.

Before the Shoppe opened for business, Kermit and Anita drove to Maryland to visit their parents. During the long drive, they made a list of everything they could think of that could contain Key Lime. This list would provide the blueprint for the gradual expansion of Kermit's Key Lime product line.

In 2003 Kermit's was bursting at the seams. After his military career John became the Managing Director and the DeLand production facility and showroom were started due to the shipping charges to the growing customers and decreased costs of production. There is a Shoppe, warehouse and production kitchen in an area of 10,000 square feet in the DeLand location. The best part of it all is that they have good set of people who promote Kermit's business. Kermit has been relying on these good people for the past two years. They have been the key to the success of Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe. From this location Kermit supports his retail and wholesale customers also supply orders received over the internet.

In 2011 Kermit got a chance to stake his claim on Duval street , which paved way for more Key West visitors to relish the goodness of Kermit's delicious Key Lime. As there are 2 spots in Key West you can never miss the opportunity of relishing a slice of key lime pie on a stick, dipped in Belgian chocolate!
